2016 Shiloh Shor Barbera

So let me start by saying this is a fun bright wine. 2016’s Shiloh Shor Barbera is made of 100% Barbera and aged 15 months in a mix of French and American oak . It clocks in at an alarming 15.5% alcohol (2016 was another hot year), but don’t worry – that doesn’t come through in the mouth.

On the nose  raspberry, cherry and plum. In the mouth the wine is juicy with the flavors mostly matching the nose –  cherry, tart raspberry,  and some dark red fruit finishing off with some dark roast coffee. The  medium sweet tannin is ripe, while the acid is ripping  and doing its part to balance out the aforementioned 15.5% alcohol;  the wine does NOT drink hot at all. A really well made and well balanced bottle!

NOTE: The wine was bottled in February – so sometime in the last 3 weeks. I enjoyed it as is, but there is a chance that it might change a little as it settles down. I’ll probably retaste in a month – and if it does I’ll update here. If not I’ll delete this note.

Bottom Line:

  • Price: NIS 70
  • For Aging: No
  • Would I Buy Again: Yes
  • QPR Rating: Average
  • Taste/Depth/Quality: Good
  • Overall Rating  (1-5): 3
