2017 Barkan Beta Series Colombard

This is the second of the three new Barkan Beta Series releases that I am tasting. You can read more about the series and my notes on the Rose  here.

Going into this, I didn’t know what to expect. My experience with Colombard is usually  as part of Gewurtz based off-dry blends – I would guess to balance it out with some acidity. I don’t think I have ever tasted a varietal Colombard . The nose was crazy full of tropical fruit – I think passion-fruit mostly. In the mouth crisp and dry tropical fruit. Medium acidity  – perhaps less than I was expecting. Juicy though and tasty.

Really  a very drinkable as an everyday dry white. In fact we gulped it down quickly alongside some BBQ chicken. So while this perhaps wasn’t the most exciting win in the world it was perfectly nice and something that I would like to have again. I am hoping that  they continue with this one – and I’m looking to forward to trying the last in this series, the Riesling.

Bottom Line:

  • Price: NIS 59
  • For Aging: No
  • Would I Buy Again: Yes
  • QPR Rating: Good
  • Taste/Depth/Quality: Good
  • Overall Rating  (1-5): 3
